On Golden Lovers vs. Young Bucks

Image
They tore the pyramid down on Sunday Photo via New Japan Pro Wrestling Strong Style Evolved was nothing to write home about, compared at least to both G1 Special shows from last year. Sure, the wrestling was fine, especially on the back-half of the show. If you edited some of the slog parts out of the Hangman Page/ Knife Pervert Jay White match, that turns into a fine semifinal title match on a strong B-show. The Kazuchika Okada and Tomohiro Ishii vs. Zack Sabre, Jr. and Minoru Suzuki match was a delightfully violent feud-furthering interstitial that helped heap more coal into the furnace for the Okada/Sabre IWGP Championship match this coming Sunday. Several other matches had fun moments. However, while the G1 Specials felt like marquee events, Strong Style Evolved had a distinct house show feeling to it. The show, up until the end of the White/Page match, felt fun but inconsequential at best. Then, the Golden Lovers and Young Bucks took the ring and gave the event its raison d'e...

All In Has Found a Venue

Image
The Bucks have found their venue for All In Photo Credit: Scott Finkelstein The show that started out as a friendly bet with Dave Meltzer has found a venue, and now feels like a real thing that is going to happen. All In, the independent wrestling show promoted by Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks, will take place at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL, a suburb of Chicago. The 11,000+ seat arena currently is home to the Windy City Bulls of the National Basketball Association's developmental league, the G-League, the Chicago Mustangs of the Major Arena Soccer League, and the Chicago Bliss of the Legends Football League (formerly Lingerie Football League). The arena has hosted pro wrestling before, as it was the home of TNA's Bound For Glory in 2008. The arena announcement is the last major piece of the puzzle to be announced, after the date (September 1) and the headline talent. The first wrestlers to be named for the show are Rhodes, the Bucks, Marty Scurll, Hangman Pa...

FINALLY, ROUSEY DEVELOPS A SECOND FACIAL EXPRESSION Photo Credit: WWE.com So, you need the news, eh? You need it so bad that you can taste it, that you ACHE FOR IT. Well, you're in luck because HORB FLERBMINBER IS BACK WITH MORE INFORMATION THAN YOUR PUNY BRAINS CAN HANDLE. I bring so much news to the table that even Justin Barrasso is embarrassed. AND HE'S CO-OPTED BY WWE. I once reported something that made Vince McMahon cry. Sure, it was that I was carrying a letterbomb full of atomized onion that exploded in his face, causing him the MOST PAINFUL PAIN HE'S EVER FELT, but hey, I take things on technicalities. IT COUNTS. Of course, you could  just read the newsletter and think to yourself, "Oh, I've had enough." Well, you'd be WRONG, because you can NEVER HAVE ENOUGH HORB, you peon. NEVER. First, follow me on Twitter, @ HorbFlerbminber . Where else can you see me hoot and holler while Eric Bischoff owns Dave Meltzer? NOWHERE, that's where. Also, you ...

Trevor Lee giving MJF the what-for here kicks off today's TWB 100 entry Photo Credit: Scott Finkelstein Today, the TWB 100 will power on through to the halfway point. Enough yammering in introduction, the time has come to get to the actual wrestlers! 75. Trevor Lee Points: 477 Number of Ballots: 7 Highest Vote: 2nd Place (Brock Jahnke) Last Years Ranking: 48th Place Chris Gibbons: Lee is a wrestler who makes the most of every context hes in. Hes one of the few TNA/IMPACT/whatever its called now wrestlers I tried to keep up with in the ring because hes the X Divisions most consistent presence. Hes a great heel in places like AAW and PWG, and his impressive long title reign in CWF Mid-Atlantic keeps delivering. Lee probably doesnt get enough due for the work he puts in. On the Women's Royal Rumble and Framing

Image
See something wrong with this pic? Photo Credit: WWE.com The Royal Rumble is approaching, and for the last few months, rumors have been flying about a second Rumble match for the women. Last night, those rumors became incarnate, as the women's Rumble match was announced to close RAW. WWE set the table for it with reintroducing Paige and debuting five women from NXT, and having the entire RAW women's roster out to brawl around the ring was the perfect canvas to bring it all home. However, in typical WWE fashion, rather than using said brawl to set up the match for storyline reasons, it had Stephanie McMahon come out, eyes affixed on her, so she could talk about how WWE was such a force for good by only recently giving women what they should have had all along. Of course, it's nothing new that WWE does this kind of corporate self-back-patting, especially when it comes to women. While the company has cultivated a strong roster of female wrestlers, the person at the forefront ...

Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks to Dream Big

Image
Rhodes wants five figures Photo Credit: Scott Finkelstein Pro wrestling has an obsession with drawing. WWE stokes that with its numbers about how its crowds are just the biggest and best, whether or not those numbers are accurate. If they're not, then Dave Meltzer will be HOT ON THE CASE, because no issue in wrestling is more pressing than telling the truth about how many people watched your show. It's not only a mark of business, but it's a point of pride for the wrestlers themselves who want to be as famous as possible. Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks obviously pride themselves on being the most popular wrestlers in America outside the corporate purview of WWE, and now, they're looking to prove it. As reported on Pro Wrestling Sheet , the core members of the Bullet Club are looking to self-finance a show at a 10,000 seat arena in 2018. Apparently, the desire to book a show in such an arena stems from a desire to prove Meltzer wrong when he said Ring of Honor, the Amer...
